Double Stuf

Review Date: 7/9/18

Name: Double Stuf
Cookie Type: Chocolate
Filling: Double Creme
Bits: N/A

Jackie's Musings

Scent: Chocolate. Sugar! Childhood. 90’s chemicals. …Plastic? But dominantly chocolate.

Dry: Why would ANYONE eat a dry Oreo?! I have bad ideas. I wonder if Nic will still be my friend after this. But seriously, this cookie has a good crunch. These are definitely fresh! But, ugh, cookie bits in my teeth. I actually enjoy the cream gushing out the sides. (#ThatsWhatSheSaid) What is wrong with me?

Cookie: Honestly… I expected more chocolate flavor. The texture is great (if you like crunchy cookies). There are so many cookie bits in my teeth! Ugh. I need to brush. And there are crumbs everywhere.

Filling: Ahh, sugar and lard! A classic! It dissolves almost instantly coating the tongue in this odd greasy feeling. It’s a bit oily but also oddly grainy. I love it.

Dunkability: There are crumbles in the milk almost instantly! Yessss. After 40 seconds I have achieved the perfect Oreo texture where it falls apart but still has a slight crunch. I’m weird. Shockingly, the cookie tastes more chocolatey with the milk. I have no bits on the flat parts of my teeth, but if there is a single groove they are filled with Oreo pieces. WTF? The filling is less oily with the milk to cut it back and it isn’t squishing out the sides. Delicious.

Bits? NO BITS. Hallelujah!

Post-Dunk Milk: A moderate amount of crumbles and a slightly sweeter flavor. Most of the sediment has sunk to the bottom and I could drink this superior form of milk forever.

In Conclusion: I don’t care what you think, the Double Stuf is obviously the measuring stick of all Oreos. Unless you’re a Light Side person. Then you should be thankful the Golden Double Stuf was finally released. After about 2 I started to get sick of these… the mediocrity grew exponentially. But Double Stuf will always be a comfort food. Love you, Double Stuf.

Nic's Ramblings

Scent: There’s chocolate. And maybe something else. I have bad nose senses…. so the world may never know.

Dry: Why did we include this as part of the review? When is the last time anyone ate a dry Oreo of their own volition? Have they always had this waxy/oily mid-taste to them? There’s definitely something chemical hiding in there, but thankfully it fades away fast enough.

Cookie: It starts off fine and then degrades from there. It turns into a kind of tasteless mass after a few seconds. I better swallow this quickly, and maybe drink some milk.

Filling: Biting into a thick “Double Stuf” filling pad definitely jumps me back to after school snacks at the babysitter’s. Has any adult actually done this on purpose? Past the nostalgia, there’s a grainy or gritty texture and sweetness that will make your dentist salivate.

Dunked cookie: Dropping the cookie half into milk for a few seconds takes the tasteless out of the tasteless mass. Probably because it disintegrates faster.

Dunkability: 30 seconds. Still crunchy. But it dissolves more quickly so you really don’t get the same Saharan dry face you get by sucking on an unsoaked cookie. Maybe 45 next time…

Overall: These are a solid baseline for the current state of American snacks. Not the same as you remember from your childhood, but they’ll do the trick.

3.0
